So many banners!
We know that people get baffled by all of the types of banners out there. We know this, because every week we help to clarify what’s available, what they cost and what is the best type of banner for each purpose.
Retractable Banners
Also know as the roll-up banner, retractable banners are just that. We print onto a durable synthetic stock, like Yupo, attach it to the banner base and it rolls up inside, ready for use. Setting them up generally involves some kind of acrobatic stretch as you endeavour to keep the banner unrolled while you prepare the pole and get it all into position. The quality of these varies massively. Things to consider are the weight and durability of the base in regards to stability and longevity. Consider the type of material used for the poster component; curl free, UV resistant, water resistant, matt or gloss finish. Retractable banners are generally best for indoor use, as mostly they blow over easily, and tend to fade (unless you get the right type of poster).
It used to be the case that it was cheaper to get a really expensive base and get the posters reprinted and replaced as needed. This is generally no longer the case, as the cost of the banner has dropped considerably over the last 5 years. Though, there are some pretty cool cartridge systems available if you do go through a lot of different posters.
X Frame Banners & Pop Up Banners
An X Frame banner has a similar look to the retractable banner. The jury is out as to whether they are harder or easier to set up – but they can be cheaper! Pop Up banners are a bit like pop up tents. Very fast and exciting to erect, and a good workout to fold up and get back in the carry bag! They do look great though, and are nice and light.
Vinyl Banners
Vinyl banners are generally for medium term outdoor use. They are often supplied with eyelets and ropes. The ropes and edges can be either welded or sewn, depending on the required durability. These banners can be single or double sided, and various grades of vinyl are available. The usual max width is about 3,000mm and lengths of 20m+ are not a problem. Pockets for hanging rods, sailtrack edging, truck webbing and wind holes are other optional extras… Keep an eye out for these at sporting events, fetes and fairs and markets.
Mesh Banners
Mesh banners can be vinyl or fabric. These are commonly seen around building sites where a total blockout is not required. The finishing options (eg, eyelets) are generally the same as a vinyl banner.
