Printed envelopes = professional communication
If you are handwriting or stamping your business details onto each envelope you send to your customers, you are likely looking for a easier, faster and more professional solution. Self-inking stamps are great (in fact, Printing Brisbane sells them!), but honestly, you are not putting your best foot forward with your external communications with a fuzzy old stamp on your envelopes!
Here are some key points to know when it comes to ordering envelopes:
Colour
One-colour print is quite affordable, two-colour gets a bit pricey, and three-colour is truly expensive. However, full colour (i.e. CMYK or unlimited colour) is reasonably priced if one colour won’t do the job for you. If you aren’t sure what you need, send your logo over, and we can go through the best options with you.
Type of glue
Lick n Stick!
The 3 closure types are:
- moist seal (lick n stick)
- peel ‘n’ seal
- press seal.
It’s generally a matter of preference. Machines usually need moist seal. The glue on them usually lasts a minimum of 12 months.

Confidential Envelopes
If your envelopes contain confidential information, you may opt to choose one which has a pattern printed on the inside. This disguises the contents of the envelope, and is popular for window face envelopes which often contain bills and statements.
Size
Sizes start with seed envelopes (90mm x 55mm) and go up to X Ray envelopes (444mm x 368mm). The most popular sizes are DL (one third A4), DLX (just a bit bigger), C5 (to fit A5) and C4 (to fit A4).
There are about 15 other common sizes, and plenty of odd ones too!

If you use window face envelopes, make sure you get the right ones! The windows comes in a range of sizes and positions, and you don’t want to re-do all of your invoice templates because someone ordered the wrong window type!

Most envelopes are white paper. Gold kraft is popular for internal business communications. Then there is a HUGE range of fancy coloured envelopes. The Optix and Curious Metallics ranges are excellent starting points!
How many to order
The minimum order for most envelopes is 1,000 (2 boxes). Occasionally 500 or 250 can be arranged for specialty orders. Our guide is to get about 12 months’ worth, as long as you have the storage space. Any more, and you risk the glue deteriorating (though it could well last for years longer). In short, get as many as you can afford (to get the price per envelope down) and store, without going overboard!
Custom designed envelopes
If you need a unique envelope for a unique job, you will need a custom-made design. You will also need a big budget! As a guide, you should be looking at ordering around 30,000+ to make it work for you, though if your budget is healthy, then you can do anything you like! We can also add strings and buttons, holes, slots – pretty much any print finish you can imagine! Custom-made envelopes are most often needed when the colour goes right to the edge of the envelope (full bleed).
