I can’t really think of any other reasons why you would seek out the cheapest price….? So, let me address the two possibilities.
Don’t have much money to spend
That’s fine! Good on you for knowing your limits and sticking to your budget. If you are truly short on money, there are some very well known online businesses who provide business cards for free – and they can be OK. So go for it! But, since you are actually going to the trouble of getting a design together, doing a bit of research, placing an order and getting the postie to bring you some cards, I can only assume you have a goal in mind for the cards? Keep that goal in mind. Will you achieve that goal by purchasing cards that look cheap? Don’t forget what it is that you want to do, and make sure you don’t cut corners where you shouldn’t.
You know what? My main advice to people with very limited budgets is actually to spend money on design before print! There is no point in paying even $25 for some cards if the design is terrible! You are better off paying a designer a bit of money to produce something clear, smart and professional and then speak to a printer to see what corners you can cut with the print. Great design will still be great, even if the print isn’t up to scratch. Bet you didn’t expect me to say that!
Business cards are antiquated
Really? Fortunately for us, that’s not what the growing print market says! But, for you, maybe they aren’t necessary. And, if that it the case, I concur – don’t be spending money on something that you are certain will not help you achieve your goals! If you only need a few, because you only hand out 10 a year, then I’m pretty sure those 10 should be made to count. Make them smart. Make them work for you. There are some fabulous options out there for very short runs of cards.
